Overview
Saint Katherine College offers a unique, integrated four-year curriculum aimed at discovering truth holistically, being transformed by it, and becoming equipped to positively transform the world for Christ. Anchored by core studies in theology, the Saint Katherine College curriculum is structured in two phases: during the first phase, students complete their general education requirements through a distinctive two-year sequence of integrated instruction in core subjects encompassing both the humanities and mathematics and the sciences. During the second phase, students pursue more advanced and specialized study in the concentrationof their choice. In all areas of the curriculum, students are encouraged to individualize their studies to best fit their interests and learning needs as they interact directly with faculty in small classes, in one-on-one mentoring, and in collaborative research and creative projects. Academic facilities at Saint Katherine College feature fully networked classrooms that allow professors and students to use the latest instructional technologies as part of the learning process. The design will be flexible enough so that new technologies can be incorporated as they develop.
Core Integration Sequence
All students are required to complete Core Integration 1 ab (Freshman) and 2 ab (Sophomore). Students continue the Core Integration framework as juniors and seniors when they meet in small groups to study one book or explore a subject through reading and discussion of several books. Professors who teach the junior and senior Core classes propose topics, and juniors and seniors submit their requests to the dean. These Core courses are fundamental to the Saint Katherine College academic experience and permit students to investigate elementary through advanced topics in Composition, English Language and Literature, Foreign Language, American Government and History, Economics, Mathematics, and the Sciences. The courses rely heavily on classical texts as well as contemporary scholarship but are not a “Great Books” program. The Core sequence is taught in a dynamic seminar setting that encourages active discussion and collaboration between students and faculty.
